Explanatory Power
A pretentious term that indicates that while a reason might not fit with existing evidence, it does explain one aspect of a question.
For example: The question "Why did Senator X forget who that constituent was? Maybe he has Alzheimers." has Explanatory Power even if Senator X remembers every other person he has ever met.
