Open Mouth Operations

This happens when the Federal Reserve indicates it will sell or purchase US Treasury bonds to influence interest rates, inflation and the money supply. The Fed is a closely watched entity, and it often does not need to actually follow through on it's rhetoric as other parties get the hint and make the needed changes in advance.
