Hyperpower

With the fall of the Soviet Union, and the subsequent downsizing of European military forces, the United States stands (which did not cut it's military spending anywhere near as much as the Europeans) alone as the single most powerful nation. Since the commentariat must come up with new names for everthing, the term hyperpower was created. It is not meaningfully different than superpower.
