The Southern part of the United States is thought to be more religious the rest, resulting in the classification of the states of the Confederacy as the "Bible Belt". (ed. note - I think this phrase was coined by H.L. Mencken)
Since then the additional term "Buckle of the Bible Belt" to denote one areas higher than average religiosity has been used by endlessly by local politicans in search of votes and bad country songs in search of filler.
