Usually used as a marketing term, it refers to more modern tendencies and areas of the American South. Generally used to indicate the Carolinas and Georgia. It was also the name of the critically acclaimed band of banjo player J.D. Crowe. Legendary Guitarist Tony Rice originally came to fame in this band.
